After a great visit in Arica it was time to head back to Iquique. We took the same route back with a couple of small detours to check out sights we did not see on the way down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Today’s first stop was a newer set of sculptures in the middle of the desert, about thirty minutes from Arica. These works were funded by the National Council for Culture and Arts, and were unveiled in 1997 to commemorate the first cultures to settle in the area. The two taller pieces are called The Origin of the Race<\/em>. The smaller dome shape piece is called The Ancestors<\/em>. The day we visited there was a school group filming a video by the sculptures. The bears were hilarious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
